Looking for a way to educate your board leadership about their responsibilities as chamber board members? Take advantage of MACCE’s September Program – with one day for Chamber Executives Only to discuss board concerns and local issues, and a second day for your board leaders to join you for an orientation to chamber best practices in board governance.

When: Thursday, September 26th, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Chamber Execs Only)

Friday, September 27th, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

(Registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.)

Thursday: “What’s Keeping You Up at Night? Board Governance and Beyond”

Peer discussion of challenges in board management, leadership recruitment and engagement, and local legislative issues to watch in the 2020 General Assembly Session. Special bonus session on using Guidestar to your organization’s advantage. Networking happy hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner in St. Michaels.

 

Friday: “Good Governance – What Every Board Leader Should Know.”

 

Topics to be covered include:

  • Board responsibilities, fiduciary duties, staff vs board roles and responsibilities, and key governing documents;
  • Board members’ role in maintaining and growing a sustainable organization;
  • Pitfalls of executive committees, executive sessions, and electronic voting and how to avoid them;
  • Risk management concerns, including antitrust and conflict of interest policies; and
  • Strategies for building better boards and committees.
Our Presenters
Claire Louder, CAE, IOM, MPP of Louder NonProfit Strategies, formerly CEO of the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, will be presenting. She will be joined by special guest presenter Michael Gellman, CPA, CGMA, of Fiscal Strategies 4 Nonprofits (formerly of Rubino & Company) will address the board’s role in fiscal management and sustainability. Both serve on the faculty of the US Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management where she teaches board governance, strategic planning, and leadership, and he teaches everything finance. They are partnering to better bridge the governance and sustainability challenges facing chamber and association boards.
